Guadalajara Grand Opening of Kurtz Ersa Technology Center
Kurtz Ersa North America announced the ribbon cutting ceremony and official grand opening of the new demo & technology center in Guadalajara. The ceremony dedicated the new demonstration and technology center in Mexico’s second largest city. Regional and international partners and customers seized the opportunity to inspect the new Ersa systems from close quarters.ersa-guadalajara-ribbon-cutting-16-1 During the event, the Ersa machines displayed their scope of activities in live demonstration – the principal performers: the HOTFLOW 3/20 reflow soldering system, the VERSAFLOW 3/45 selective soldering system and the HR 600/2 rework system. The VERSAFLOW 3/45 continues to make a convincing impact in electronics manufacturing as the most-used in-line selective soldering plant with the highest degree of reproduction in the market. The new HR 600/2 is a highly-automated rework system which guarantees a totally reproducible process with the proven closed loop technology. And the HOTFLOW 3/20 offers outstanding heat transfer for different component assemblies with an ideal energy balance.ersa-guadalajara-ribbon-cutting-16-2

Libra Industries installs new SPI Systems in Mentor and Dallas
Libra Industries announced that is has completed the installation of two new Omron CDK VP5200-V Solder Paste Inspection systems. A second system was installed at the Libra Industries’ Mentor facility and one was installed at the Dallas facility. Libra Industries’ VP of Operations Steve Schwaebler stated, “Since implementing SPI, our productivity has increased and we have gained the ability to inspect fixture sizes that are too small for reliable visual inspection, with true 3D measurements. We are looking forward to adding additional stations to our other lines.” After benefitting from high-speed inspection and an industry-leading speed of 9,400mm2/sec after the first install, Libra Industries has successfully installed two additional units. The VP-V series is specially designed to achieve a higher speed of inspection to meet the needs of high-speed production lines, such as Libra Industries’. With inline detection, mounting faults at the initial stage, which make up 70 percent of the total, can be detected early on. The VP5200-V provides Libra Industries with high accuracy and repeatability to support the inspection of ultra-fine Pads.

Cognex acquires two 3D vision companies
Cognex Corporation has expanded its 3D vision capabilities with the recent acquisition of two companies specializing in 3D machine vision technology. On October 27, 2016, Cognex acquired EnShape GmbH, a maker of advanced 3D vision sensors and software based in Jena, Germany. EnShape’s 3D sensors use patented area-scan technology for fast image capture at high resolution, and eliminate the need to mechanically move objects in front of the device as required with laser line scanners. The company’s team of highly skilled 3D vision engineers will become part of a new Cognex engineering center based in Jena. On August 30, 2016, Cognex also completed the acquisition of AQSense, a provider of 3D vision software based in Girona, Spain. AQSense develops and sells a library of field-tested 3D vision tools and a configuration software package that helps customers easily set up their 3D vision applications. The company’s software engineers joined Cognex’s 3D engineering team upon the closing of the acquisition. “We see a growing number of opportunities for 3D vision in industries such as automotive, consumer electronics and logistics, to name just a few,” said Joerg Kuechen, Vice President of Vision Products for Cognex.
